From Bacteria to Bach and Back: The Evolution of Minds – First published 2017
Self-proclaimed holy men have throughout times condemned many great minds to “God’s” love with a kind forgiving gesture leading to the burning in hells fires, but, if Dennet is going, let me follow!
How did we come to have minds? For centuries, poets, philosophers, psychologists, and physicists have wondered how the human mind developed its unrivaled abilities. Disciples of Darwin have explained how natural selection produced plants, but what about the human mind?
I came to know Dennet via the four horsemen discussions (Hitchens, Harris, Dawkins, Dennet) back in 2007 – And to say the least, I was generously re-vitalized by the power and intellectual capacity between the four of them. Of course Hitchens, which is my goto atheistic power-bank no.1, is still the ruler! – then; Dennet, Dawkins, Harris in that order.
“There is no ‘hard problem’ and consciousness is no more mysterious than gravity” ~ Daniel Dennet
Brilliant and geeky-good reading, just the way I like it!
I give it: ★★★★☆
